Discounter Aldi took first place on the winner’s podium at this year’s prestigious Grocer Gold Awards, scooping Discounter of the Year for the second consecutive year. The awards, tipped as the ‘Oscars’ of the UK retail industry, crowned Aldi top of the shops, beating Poundland to the award.

Our-award winning philosophy of offering consumers brand quality products at consistently low prices is proving increasingly popular with consumers. The official Neilson Homescan figures for the 4 weeks ending 28th April 2012 shows that we have grown our UK grocery market share to a record 4%.
The awards are the latest in a long line of accolades for Aldi. Already in 2012, the discounter has racked up a massive 49 awards for the quality and value of its products. Most recently, Aldi’s Toro Loco Tempranillo red wine sparked a buying frenzy when it scooped a top award from the prestigious International Wine and Spirit Competition in May.

2012 was a fantastic year for Aldi, and it culminated in us being awarded Which? Supermarket of the Year! We beat the likes of Marks and Spencer, Waitrose and Lidi to this prestigious award, which is measured on customer satisfaction, value for money, reliability and quality.
The Which? Awards were launched in 2007 to celebrate and reward the very best businesses in the UK, recognising individuals and companies such as Aldi for consistently ‘getting it right’. And this is now the second time we’ve won Which? Supermarket of the Year!
